Project Management: DataCore Up Close Project Delivery Methodology Overview by Pamela Aloia, Quality Manager
With the implementation of our Project Delivery Methodology, it's amazing to note how smoothly our projects run - from project kick off to project closure. Our Project Delivery Methodology enables us to document and track meetings, requirements, plans and schedules in a structured manner. We can easily monitor our budget, schedule and resources to prevent project delays and, when necessary, alter these items as appropriate. We are able to involve you, the Customer, more, and obtain regular feedback from you so the system we implement is what you need and meets your expectations. Our methodology breaks down each project into the following phases:
The Plan phase identifies the scope of the project, defines the "rules" the project will follow and generates a schedule for the major tasks of the project. The Define phase determines user, functional and system requirements for the system being implemented. The Design phase lays out the blueprints of the system: how the system will be designed, the screen layout and system structure. The Build phase uses the requirements and system design to construct and test the system. The Deploy phase implements the system and trains the users. During this phase, time is set aside for user acceptance testing prior to production rollout. The Close phase includes Customer acceptance and feedback of the project. We take your feedback, evaluate it, and incorporate it into our processes in the effort to improve ourselves and the end product. Each phase has associated with it:
So, to move forward to another phase, we need to ensure certain tasks are completed in the current phase. For example, to move from the Define Phase to the Design Phase, we need your approval and input into the specification documents before we can design and build your system. Throughout the project's lifecycle, DataCore communicates regularly with you to ensure your involvement. Your involvement and feedback are necessary for a successful project. As much as you look to us for expertise and experience with our products, we look to you for your expectations on usage and needs of the system. Without the Project Delivery Methodology, there is the potential for disorganization to the point of chaos, lack of tracking requirements, plans, and budget, and most importantly lack of your involvement. With our Project Delivery Methodology, we address each project methodically together, with you, from the start of the project to the end of the project.
